What to do with money reclaimed from the second pension pillar: experts’ advice and warnings
From Friday, January 2, people can already submit requests to stop saving in the second pillar in order to recover part of the accumulated money. There were so many applicants that the operations of two banks were disrupted.
The only question is what to do with the recovered money? Delfi provided information that is useful for anyone thinking about investing. Where to invest in 2026? Close Years marked by an impressive rise in gold prices and the artificial intelligence race should be followed by a calmer 2026. But investors will not forget the technology sector, and stocks and bonds should perform particularly well. Experts interviewed by Delfi, however, warn about risk factors that will form in the U.S. “The prevailing view in the market is that next year stock exchanges will rise by double-digit percentages,” comments SEB analyst Linas Mickus.
“Blind buying is over; now real profits will be sought,” says Greta Šiaučiulytė, fund manager at Synergy Finance.
How to earn more than €7,000 after five years? Profitus marketing manager and investor Miglė Grybinienė says she started investing long before she got a job in this field. She admits that she is not a particularly experienced investor who knows all the instruments and can tell a success story about becoming financially independent within a few years thanks to investing. “I live on my salary, but I invest actively because I see great meaning in it. I think that’s why I understand well both those who want to start, those taking their first steps, and already experienced investors, and I don’t lose the emotional connection with any group,” she notes.
For someone considering investing, Grybinienė says that making a decision takes on average about 12 months. There are countless investment instruments on the market that beginner investors can try. Grybinienė, however, suggests that beginners consider crowdfunding platforms.
Where to ‘hide’ money from inflation? With inflation from time to time raising its head and threatening people’s money, Delfi asked analysts how best to “put savings to work” and which investing or saving solutions are the wisest when prices are rising.
Lithuanians who invested and got burned speak openly about how they fell into a “scheme”. The most important thing is that when investing, you don’t hand your money over to scammers. In 2025, Delfi revealed one particularly painful case of investment fraud: people who trusted the cryptocurrency trading platform “Lwex” and invested thousands feel burned, having believed the nice talk and the promised generous returns.
People who shared their stories with the Delfi portal claimed that from the very beginning they had suspicions that there might be signs of a financial pyramid, but they trusted it because relatives and friends were already using the platform. The Bank of Lithuania reported that it had blocked access to “Lwex” platforms, and law enforcement confirmed information about receiving complaints from victims and the start of a pre-trial investigation.
